Singers Wanted!

Colla Voce is looking for talented singers in all sections.  Auditions are ongoing!

Join a fun bunch of guys as we sing to raise awareness and funds for our community.

Our next concert is a Benefit Concert for The Family Link on May 24, 2012.  Rehearsals have begun, but new singers are still welcome. Colla Voce will also be performing at the GALA festival in July in Denver, CO.

Check us out! See the Membership page for details.

“Colla voce” is an Italian music direction meaning “following the voice.” It signifies from whom the other instruments take their cues.

Colla Voce is a proud member of GALA Choruses (Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses).

Steve Ng, Musical Director

Colla Voce's music director, Steve Ng, draws from over 20 years of experience in making voices sing. He has been involved with the gay choral movement since 1981. In 1985, he co-founded Spruce Street Singers in Philadelphia. In 1990, the City Council of Philadelphia passed a resolution recognizing the ensemble for its incomparable singing and for being the only such ensemble to donate all of its proceeds back to the community. Steve joined the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus in 1990 and founded the select ensemble, Nota Bene, in 1992. He led the ensemble for ten years, guiding it to new heights, including its first CD, Sing Me to Heaven. He is extremely thrilled and excited to be working with Colla Voce making music and supporting the community.

Doug McGrath, Accompanist

Doug McGrath (on leave) was born to country-and-western parents. That he fell in love with classical and choral music may lend argument to nature versus nurture, but that's a story for a different time. Born in Colorado and growing up on a farm in western Kansas, he was drawn to piano at an early age, but didn't start lessons until the ripe old age of 13. Since moving to California and adapting to color, he's accompanied--and is currently accompanying--the Silicon Valley Gay Men's Chorus, the Rainbow Women's Chorus, and Opus Q. He appears on two recordings with SVGMC, and in addition to choral accompanying, occasionally appears in the pit band for musicals, and used to play vaudeville theater regularly. Software engineering supports his other habits, and when not at the piano or playing with computers, he can be found underwater with the Northern California Rainbow Divers. He also serves as webmaster for Colla Voce.
