Colla Voce Concert Raises Voices and Over $2,500 for Local LGBT Veterans Group

On February 19, 2009, Colla Voce presented a gift check of $2,815.00 to Alexander Hamilton Post 448 of the American Legion to support Post 448's work on behalf of all veterans. This check represented 100% of the concert ticket sales from Colla Voce's January 25th benefit concert for Post 448, and is the largest check donated by Colla Voce since it began performing in 2004.
Colla Voce is a bay area men's vocal ensemble whose mission is to provide support, awareness, and outreach to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community through musical performances. Colla Voce is unique in that it donates 100% of proceeds from its concert ticket sales to other non-profit, charitable organizations.
The January 25th concert, titled, The Music Goes Round and Around: A Tribute to Great Vocal Groups of the 30's, 40's and 50's, was sung to a sold-out house at the War Memorial Veterans Building. It was a wonderfully fitting concert for Post 448, which is the only American Legion post whose membership is predominantly LGBT.
Colla Voce performs two or three concert sets a year. While San Francisco is its home base, Colla Voce also perform across the broader bay area (e.g. Berkeley, Vacaville, Benicia), providing support, awareness and outreach to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
Colla Voce's next concert is tentatively titled "Eine Kleine Afternoon Musik" and will consist of music ranging in style from classical to pop. The pieces will be sung in German and English, and will include such composers as Brahms, Schubert, Weill, and The Comedian Harmonists. A beneficiary for this concert has yet to be selected.
